The Haute Savoie is one of the most naturally stunning and diverse regions of France.
It is a department that boasts beautiful lakes and some of the most dramatic mountain-scapes in Europe – most notably Mont Blanc, which divides France from Italy. In wintertime, Europe’s skiers flock to the region, visiting such resorts as Chamonix, and it is rightly regarded as one of the most exceptional provinces for winter sports in the world.
Lake Geneva, Annecy and Evian
To the north of the department (74), Haute Savoie borders on Switzerland, with Geneva the nearest city, offering work opportunities for many resident in Haute Savoie. In fact, some 80,000 ‘frontaliers’ live in France and cross the border each day to work in Geneva, which is home to 197 of the world’s Non-Governmental Organizations, such as the United Nations, Red Cross and the World Health Organization and headquarters to numerous global corporations.
Other towns of note include Annecy, the region’s capital: an historic and beautiful town that sits at the tip of Lake Annecy and Evian-les-Bains, also on the shores of Lake Geneva, which is known around the world for its bottled mineral water, ‘Evian’.
Right at the Heart of Europe
Haute Savoie is right at the heart of continental Europe and is a gateway to Italy, Switzerland, Germany and even Austria, all of which are just a few hours drive away. Geneva acts as a transport hub, with a major rail network passing through the city and an airport that services Europe and the world beyond.
Great quality of life
Above all else, the Haute Savoie offers a fabulous lifestyle, mixing the calm and serenity of nature at its most vivid, with the commercial opportunities that major towns and cities offer for employment.
